Addressing the rising cost of care is a central challenge for today’s policymakers. From our perspective, the long-term sustainability and affordability of our system are inextricably linked. No single factor is responsible for increasing health care costs; significant cost drivers exist throughout the system. Increased spending in three areas — hospital care, physician services and prescription drugs — accounts for 75 percent of rising costs.
To foster an ongoing public dialogue on health care’s most pressing challenges, UnitedHealth Group created the Center for Health Reform and Modernization. Through the Center we engage with policymakers and the medical community, offering new ideas and proven solutions to make the health system less costly and more efficient while increasing accessibility and strengthening the quality of care.
